Royal Caribbean Group is doubling down on luxury travel with the announcement of a Silversea-branded world cruise set for 2029. The 140-day itinerary will visit 40 countries across six continents, targeting affluent travelers seeking all-inclusive premium experiences.
The move comes as cruise operators report record bookings in the luxury segment, with Silversea’s occupancy rates exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Analysts note this reflects broader trends in discretionary spending, where high-net-worth individuals continue to prioritize experiential travel despite economic uncertainties.
‘We’re seeing unprecedented demand for ultra-premium offerings,’ said a Royal Caribbean executive speaking on condition of anonymity due to the preliminary nature of the announcement. The company plans to reveal full itinerary details and pricing in Q1 2027.
Industry observers suggest the 2029 voyage serves as both a revenue driver and marketing tool, with similar world cruises typically generating $50-100 million in ticket sales while boosting brand perception. The announcement follows competitor Viking’s successful 2024 world cruise that sold out within weeks.
However, some sustainability advocates question the environmental impact of extended luxury cruises. A recent Marine Policy journal study found world cruises generate 3-5 times the carbon emissions of typical vacations.
