The University of Pittsburgh’s men’s basketball team has secured another transfer portal commitment, this time from Charleston Southern guard A’lahn Sumler. The move adds depth to the Panthers’ backcourt as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Sumler, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 12.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season for Charleston Southern. His ability to score from beyond the arc (38% three-point shooter) and defend multiple positions makes him a valuable addition for Pitt.
“Sumler brings versatility and experience to our roster,” a team source told TribLIVE.com. “He fits our system well and should contribute immediately.”
This marks Pitt’s third transfer portal addition this offseason, following commitments from a power forward and another guard. Analysts suggest the Panthers are addressing specific needs after losing two starters to graduation.
With Sumler’s commitment, Pitt now has one remaining scholarship available. Coach Jeff Capel is reportedly still targeting a big man to complete the 2024-25 roster.
