Meta is developing an artificial intelligence chatbot modeled after CEO Mark Zuckerberg to interact with employees, according to three sources familiar with the project. The AI system, currently in internal testing, aims to replicate Zuckerberg’s distinctive communication patterns and management philosophy.
The initiative emerges as Meta accelerates its AI investments following the launch of its Llama 3 large language model. Company insiders describe the project as part experimental HR tool, part productivity assistant, with the AI designed to answer employee questions in Zuckerberg’s characteristic direct style.
‘This isn’t about replacing human interaction, but creating a scalable way to disseminate leadership perspectives,’ said one Meta executive who requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to discuss unreleased products. The executive emphasized that employees would always be able to distinguish the AI from real communications.
Analysts note the move aligns with Meta’s broader metaverse ambitions. ‘If you’re building virtual worlds populated by digital humans, creating convincing AI personas is core technology,’ said Sarah Chen, AI researcher at Stanford University. ‘What’s striking here is applying that to corporate communications.’
Ethical concerns persist about AI impersonation, even internally. Last year, Microsoft faced criticism for testing an AI chatbot that mimicked a deceased employee. Meta’s approach could set precedents for how companies deploy executive likenesses in workplace AI.
