University of Virginia quarterback Jacob Rodriguez has been named the 2024 recipient of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, recognizing his excellence on the field and leadership in the community. The award, established by former NFL tight end Jason Witten, honors college football players who demonstrate exceptional character, sportsmanship, and commitment to service.
Rodriguez, a junior, led the Cavaliers to an 8-4 record this season while also volunteering over 200 hours with local youth programs. “Jacob embodies what this award stands for,” a spokesperson for the Jason Witten Foundation told reporters. “His dedication to mentoring kids and promoting education sets him apart.”
The award has previously gone to standout athletes like Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. Analysts note Rodriguez’s selection could boost his profile ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. “This kind of recognition matters to teams evaluating character,” one scout said anonymously.
Rodriguez will be honored at a ceremony in Dallas on February 15, where Witten will present the award. The event will also feature a $10,000 donation to a charity of Rodriguez’s choice.
