Flyadeal, Saudi Arabia’s budget airline, has confirmed an order for Airbus A330-900neo aircraft configured with two-class cabins including premium economy seats, marking a departure from its traditional low-cost model. The new jets will feature 14 premium economy seats alongside standard economy, according to industry sources familiar with the matter.
The move comes as Middle Eastern carriers increasingly compete for higher-yield passengers while maintaining cost efficiency. Analysts note that Flyadeal’s parent company, Saudia Group, has been strategically repositioning its subsidiaries to capture different market segments.
“This reflects the growing demand for mid-range premium travel options in the region,” said an aviation analyst at CAPA Centre for Aviation, speaking on condition of anonymity. “The A330neo’s fuel efficiency makes it viable for both regional and medium-haul routes.”
The aircraft order aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to expand tourism and aviation infrastructure. However, some industry observers question whether a low-cost carrier can successfully implement premium offerings without compromising its brand positioning.
